A first step towards a multimedia corpus for Swedish Sign Language

We have recently started to investigate how the study of Swedish Sign Language can be improved by the use of multimedia techniques. The immediate goal is to learn how techniques available today can be used for storing and analysing videotaped and transcribed sign language material. To do this we are now working with one hundred signed sentences taken from a multimedia dictionary and a short narrative text transcribed by six different transcribers. In our presentation we will report on our experiences from this work (in which we are using Syncwriter and Filemaker) focussing on problems that we have identified (as e.g. the use of glosses), in particular with regard to future corpus work.
