International Symposium
Signing Books for the Deaf: Development and Production of Sign Language Videos/CD-ROMs
The symposium Signing Books for the Deaf: Development and Production of Sign Language Videos/CD-ROMs - which is part of the Signing Books project - is going to take place at the Institute of German Sign Language, University of Hamburg, on Friday and Saturday, November 19 and 20, 1999.
The symposium will be the first international gathering of producers, publishers and users of signing books (videos and CD-ROMs in sign language), representatives from different Deaf organisations as well as researchers and government representatives.
The aims of the symposium are:
- to draw attention to the market for signing books;
- to agree on quality standards for signing books productions;
- to create a basis for an increasing number of productions and support new projects;
- to establish a platform for future co-operation in the production, publication and distribution of signing books.
The following sessions are planned:
- presentation of different products and approaches
- script and editing questions
- design
- technical equipment, technical aspects
- special user group requirements, e.g. children; students
- co-operation deaf - hearing; the role of interpreters
- marketing
- library services for the Deaf
- hands-on session
