The project
The DGS-Corpus project has two goals:
1. The collection and preparation of sign language data in an annotated corpus
2. The development of a corpus-based electronic DGS - German dictionary
The German Sign Language (DGS) has been explored very little so far. Within the project, language data from different regions in Germany will be filmed and arranged into a corpus. A team of Deaf and hearing staff members will work on and evaluate the corpus. A part of the films will be made available to the Deaf community in Germany as well as to all who are interested. The corpus offers linguists long-term possibilities to analyse various aspects of DGS on an empirical basis.
